On Dec 10, 2012, 4 year old Ely's (affectionately nicknamed Little E) parents brought him to the hosptial because he was experiencing extreme pain in his hips. At first, the source of his pain was a mystery. Over the next 4 days in the hospital, Little E underwent a flurry of tests. Still, after all the Xrays, MRIs, and Ultrasounds the cause of Little E's pain continued to elude his doctors. With no answer in sight, Doctors ordered a test that involved taking a bone marrow sample.
The results came in, the diagnosis was devasting, Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia. Little E was immediately sent to surgery to implant a port-a-cath under the skin of his chest wall allowing blood to be drawn and chemotherapy solutions to be delivered into his body.
As you might imagine, Little E's parents spend every minute they can by his side doing their best to remain strong and positive in order to help Little E beat this disease. While only a few months into the battle, Little E's parents are quickly learning that even with health insurance, the finacial costs associated with battling this disease are quickly becoming overwhelming.
